Hey guys. I just learned somethin'. Everybody's got realspeak right on their computers whether they're usin' Jaws or Window Eyes? Well I just found out that in order for realspeak to not sound distorted at the end of each sentence, you have to change the speech rate to a reasonable rate. For Window Eyes users, the rate has to be set to 11, I dunno about Jaws. But anyway, I downloaded this voice on a website with a free trial of a program called Thunder Plus and I enjoy it. I think it's totally better than Neospeech, although props have to be given to Nextup for tryin' to make their voices sound real. I mean, some words says sound real, but most of the time I find Neospeech to almost sound like the Microsoft synthesizers. But you know what's funny about this voice? This is a demo but it doesn't say that there's an expiry date. So here's thinkin' that I have this forever. Although if it does go, I'm thinkin' of goin' to Realspeak Tom. I'm never goin' back to Neospeech. I think Scansoft or whatever the hell it's called did a fine job of makin' such a sophisticated breed of synthesizers. My hat goes off to them.
I truly want to get the Alexandros voice for Realspeak and might actually buy it. My mouth watered when I heard it. It's better than Loquendo and I can't get E-Reator to try because I can't find the registration link on their site.
I love the real speak voices my only beef with them is that the memory usage and how it slows everything down anoys me.
Well the demo voice that came with that Thunder Plus is Daniel. You know, the British voice? And I don't have any complaints about it 'cause for me, it doesn't slow anythin' down believe it or not. Ever since I set the speech rate to 11, it's been so responsive. More responsive than Neospeech Paul was.
yeah alot of the real speak voices do slow everything down. my favorite one is karen.
My favorite one is Tom, and what they have new real speak voices out? Because in my oppinion it's not that naturaal...
Well it is but it slows everything down.
Trust me, when the only voices you could find for a language are robotic, nonexistant or impossible to get, or they only work with earlier versions of windows, anything is good. Thank The Gods for Hal and Orpheus!
I don't think Realspeak is robotic at all, they're high quality real voices. And if Tom's the one that announces the weather reports on the States' radio weather stations, he does a good job of it.
still, nothing can beat eloquence as far as responsiveness. I am not talking about sound quality but when you hit a key and it's there, no delay, no stutter. It's just on it. I haven't found a voice yet that does that besides eloquence and it's not just on the PC, but on the phones as well!
Well ever since I fixed the speech rate on Window Eyes, It's been responsive like Eloquence. That may be hard to believe for y'all, but it's true.
I don't like the real speak voices with Jaws, but I love them for the kitchen sinc games. It's nice to be able to have a lot of voices to chose from for them other then those microsoft ones.
Oh, someone else with the Kitchensinc games, cool. Yeah I have those and I agree with you. My favorite one of 'em all is Monopoly. But I agree, it's nice not bein' confined to the default Sapi voices when you have Realspeak.
yeah the microsoft voices suck really hard. microsoft sam grinds on my nerves because it sounds so bad.
And speaking of natural voices, everyone knows about Alex and Leopard right? This voice is a Leopard specific one that actually breathes. I heard somewhere it was from Cepstral but now I have no idea.
I dont know how natural it is, and Eloquence I have to agree is the most responsive; RealSpeak is good for the BG series, the KitchensInc stuff, lets see... And a lot of other stuff as well.
Cheres.
Andy.
Orpheus is just as responsive as Eloquence. I don't mean the new English voices, I mean the traditional ones. They're synthetic, but fast as lightening in response time.
Well, at least we're in agreement about the Microsoft voices, they're shit. You know actually I had the Microsoft Sapi 4 voices one time on my computer and I was wonderin to myself why the hell Microsoft made 'em sound more shitty than they used to? I mean, the upgraded the Sapi engine to 5, you'd think that they'd improve the voices a bit. Someone at Microsoft fucked up big time. But anyway, back to Realspeak. This is week 2 with it and I'm still lovin' it. Dunno if this Demo will expire or not but once again, here's hopin' that it doesn't. And a synthesizer breathin'? Wow, I find that hard to believe but whatever, what do I know. But like I said, this Realspeak voice has been oober responsive, probably 'cause I use Window-Eyes, I dunno. But if I had no Realspeak voices and I were stuck with DecTalk or Eloquence, I'd probably use DecTalk 'cause at least that doesn't sound as robotic as Eloquence.
As a teacher, I'm grateful for the variety of voices we haev to choose from. Different people have different types of hearing loss, and its hard not to find a voice that a person can't work with if they have hearing that let's them at least understand spech.
Lou
I agree with you on that.
Wow. No one has visited this board in a while. Kay, I have a couple of questions, one is about money, and the other one is about a Windows operatin' system. Well I guess I should start from the beginnin' right? I'm thinkin' about buyin' a new computer 'cause this one is on its last legs I think. And with this new one I wanna buy Realspeak Tom. I was just wonderin' how much I would be payin' for that voice. And now the operatin' system question. Are there computers still for sale that have Windows XP? Because I only have WE from 2 years ago, 5.5 and I think it'd be a pain in the ass to get an upgrade. So that's why I wanna know if people still sell computers that have Windows XP on them. I'm askin' these questions by the way 'cause I might be winnin' $1000 from a radio contest here in Winnipeg.
Hey guys. Well, I'm proud to say that I finally have Realspeak Tom and I'm lovin' it. As a matter of fact, I sacrificed that Daniel voice so I could get this one. And guess how I got it. I downloaded it again just like I did that Daniel voice. And just like that other voice, this is also a demo but I have a feelin' that this one is gonna last forever, like Daniel would've had I kept him. But anyway, just wanted to let y'all know that. I fuckin' got the voice! Woohoo!
Kay this is a question directly for PacMate users. Has Freedom Scientific made Realspeak voices for the PacMate? And if so, where can I get 'em since I have a PacMate already? 'Cause when I eventually get it up and runnin' again, I would like those voices on it instead of those crappy Eloquence voices.
Well. First off, freedom scientific doesn't make them. ScanSoft does.
Second, if they're available, they might not work with jfw4pm, and also they'd be huge.
I dont use pacmate, I use braille note but i'm a geek lol
To the leopard poster, yup Alex breathes. I don't know if he was made by scansoft, but he is awesome, the most human sounding voice that I have ever herad from a computer.
To post number one, what do you mean everyone has realspeak right on their computer? If I do, it is hidden and I have never found it.
To Tiffanitsa, you can find the Alexandros voice on rapidshare. If you want, I'll post a link here, or you can search for voice Alexandros on rapiddigger.com.
That last post shouldn't be there ... naughty!
ok, alex is apples voice. there are other human sounding voices out there besides rs and n s. the infovox group with akapella also is good. and yes, tom is the voice who does the weather radio stuff here in the states, him and A T N T christal. the voice tom that they use is not called scan soft tom on the weather radio, it's called speachafy tom. and, yeah, I used to be way into eloquence, but now I just hardly ever mess around with it, since the most fastest thing out there that can surely beat eloquences responsiveness, is espeak. for years I never really cared for it but now it's awsome, I guess ever since they got the clat voices for it with NVDA and stuff.
I agree with post 17, because in my experience, people who are not used to speech software get used to certain voices and prefer to be able to choose from a wider variety of cynthesisers
